Apple’s iPhone Fold May Use Samsung Display Not Yet Seen in Galaxy Z Series

Apple has a foldable iPhone in the making. We’ve been hearing rumors about it for a long time, but we have never encountered such an interesting leak. From what the Naver blog leaker “Yeux1122” suggests, Apple could use a Samsung-made display that Samsung itself hasn’t used for its own Galaxy Z Fold handsets.

The first part of this leak is actually a sound statement. Samsung already supplies Apple with most of the displays used by the company for the bar-style iPhones. It makes sense that Apple would shake hands with the pioneering display manufacturer again to supply foldable displays for its upcoming device.

What’s interesting about today’s leak is that Apple wants a display from Samsung that has never been seen on any of the folding devices in the market before. It seems this display technology uses a manufacturing process different from the normal fold, and Samsung has yet to implement this technology in its own handsets.

Current folding phones have screens with their touch sensors mounted on separate layers under the panel, which adds to the thickness of the product. iPhone Fold wants to use a display that has the screen and the touch sensor present in a single layer. So, we imagine it will be much thinner than your typical folding handset. For buyers comparing options, the Apple iPhone price list will likely reflect this innovation with a premium tag.

The leaker goes on to claim that Samsung has also been paying attention to its products, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have a noticeably thinner design. Apple’s upcoming fold is part of the reason why Z Fold 7 is undergoing the transition, obviously, to stay ahead when the competition arrives.

From what we’ve gathered, the single-layer foldable screen fits Apple’s overly stringent requirements for thickness, power, weight, and brightness. The company refuses to accept the conventional tech for its foldable iPhone.

Another interesting detail pointed out by the leaker is that the new display tech has better color reproduction and brightness than your average Samsung Z Fold. Yeux1122 has had some misses in the past with leaks, and we won’t be surprised if this rumor doesn’t pan out. As always, we have to wait for more sources to confirm these details.
