Oppo Reno 17 Series Tipped to Support Lens Extender Kit for the First Time

Teleconverter kits are very popular on Chinese devices right now, especially the premium ones. Turns out, they are quite useful when designed specifically for a device. AI Snap key was a big add-on for the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro. That feature was actually building up to a teleconverter option on the Oppo Reno 17 series.

There was a leak by Gadgetsdata on X that went deep into the Find X10 series specs. But the leaker also wrote about the Reno 17 series in the post. Apparently, there may be a teleconverter kit option for these midrange handsets this time.

We’ve seen Oppo flagships in the Reno Find X series being deployed with those long telephoto converters, but never in the Reno class. Their Reno 17 series might be the first one to do it. The leaker had no other details about the lineup itself, but this is a big development.

Lens extenders are trickling down from flagships to midrange. This is a premium camera mod that makes photography exciting again. There was already a 50MP periscope telephoto lens on the Reno 16 Pro and even the base Reno 16 at 3.5X zoom. Here you can browse the Oppo Price List to compare the latest mobile phones and find a model that suits your needs.

Imagine the exact hardware but with a telephoto extender that can zoom even further into the scene with more depth and natural bokeh in the background. This won’t be free, though. You’ll either pay for the add-on, or you’ll get it in the box, in which case, the phone’s price will go up.

AI Snap Key, which is a customizable shortcut key from the old Reno 16, will prove useful this time around because you can set it as a dedicated shutter button that works extremely well with a lens extender. You won’t have to awkwardly reach the screen as you try to click the photos.

This detail is moot, but the company has also tried to put a 64MP 1:1 square selfie camera on the Reno 17 family, but they failed to make it work. If you’ve heard rumors along those lines, just know that the leak by Gadgetsdata completely refutes the claim of a 64MP selfie on the Reno 17.
