Samsung Galaxy A72 4G Benchmarked Before Launch; Results Show a Subtle Bump In Performance

Last week, the phone leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as @OnLeaks, shared detailed Samsung Galaxy A72 5G product mockups. While we wait for more of its specifications to pop up, the 4G variant has already been benchmarked. And since they share the same design, we know what to expect.

You can find the Samsung Galaxy A71's successor listed under the model number SM-A725F. The scorecard, aside from the performance details, also features some relevant system information. The Galaxy A72 4G has 8GB of memory and runs on Samsung’s latest Android11-based OneUI 3.0.

The chipset isn’t named, but the ‘atoll’ codename for the motherboard belongs to the Snapdragon 720G chipset. It’s a 4G-centric gaming SoC that came out in January this year. And if last year’s Galaxy A71 and A71 5G are any guides, this chip should be the only feature separating the Galaxy A72 and A72 5G (more on that in a few.)

Coming back to the benchmarks, the Samsung new model 2020 Galaxy A72 peaks at 526 points on its single-core tests. And it manages 1,623 points on multi-threaded tasks. For context, the Galaxy A71 hits 421 and 1549 points on single and multi-core tests, respectively. So we’re looking at a subtle improvement in performance.

Since they share a single build, the Samsung Galaxy A72 4G also has a four-camera setup, arranged inside a protruding block. The shell has the popular Prism Crush finish from last year. On the front, a hole-punch is poked into the 6.7” AMOLED screen.
