Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Z Flip 5 Spotted on Web with Leaked Benchmark Results; SoCs Tipped

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, when benchmarked against the slab-form Galaxy S22 Ultra, comes out ahead in terms of processing but lags slightly behind in graphics. It was quite the controversy last year — the Fold has the upgraded Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, while the slab has an older and standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The results were odd and misplaced.

Contrary to the last year's story, the rumor mill suggests that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 will feature the same Samsung-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC as this year's Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The narrative around the upcoming iterations of Samsung's Galaxy Z series has shifted slightly. In the past, the Galaxy Z series has consistently outperformed the slab-form S series by featuring upgraded chipsets, despite launching in the same year.

However, 2023 marks a departure from that pattern. According to a leaked benchmark report doing rounds on the internet, Samsung's Flip new model, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 feature the exact-same SoC as the current S23 series — an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which boasts 3.36GHz frequency instead of the standard 3.2GHz.

Samsung's new Galaxy Z series still has 5 to 6 months left before popping out. By that time, Qualcomm might have already announced the Plus version of SD 8 Gen 2. Chances are, Samsung will tweak the older For-Galaxy chip to achieve the trending and flagship-equivalent benchmark results.

Per the leaked performance tests, the incoming foldable Z series scores over 2000 points in single-core and over 5000 in multicore, outshining the current industry standard set by the S23 series boasting up to 1500 points and 4500 points in similar tests. The difference might be because the foldable device got benchmarked on Geekbench 6, while the slabs had their benchmarks taken on Geekbench 5. It's still unclear how they will hold up in day-to-day usage.
